personally I do not believe, that you will have any outages, because of technical hiccups (sessions crashing, network, etc). Transactions in Mx.3/Mx G2000 work reliably. It might be a fine excuse for people modifying data, but I really doubt …

The problem with static data is that you need to have rather experienced people (some who have an understanding of the impact of a small setting) doing a rather stupid job (at least if they have to do a lot of changes). And to make matters worse you would need even more experienced people debugging issues which arise [...]

If you feel comfortable that your Sybase environment has enough capacity, why don’t you introduce a SQL based comparison of yesterday’s pre-EOD copy and today’s production database in which you compare the static data tables you want to ensure consistency for? You could then generate a report which is being sent to a relevant panel for verification, where the actual changes can be checked against the intended changes. This could be done prior to a EOD run in order to make sure that all runs smoothly. [...]

We currently have a single team that manage static data, and access is tightly controlled. But this team have multiple people servicing user requests, this team is rapidly growing in line with business requirements, and can easily make mistakes for various reasons out of our control. [...]

configuration of a premium settlement in an option derivative (Cap/Floor, or

We need to configure

1. Premium settles upfront (no problem)
2. Premium settles upfront periodic premiums, in arrears periodic premium

any other formula

You are talking about static data and the inconsistency that can occur when several users are manipulating data content.
I have seen this happen many times and the biggest issue in my humble opinion is that too many users have the rights to make vital changes to the system.

My first advice is to review the rights structure. Only the static data team (and every bank should have such a team) should be able to make changes to static data. Many banks even have a separate team which is responsible for financial instruments and is solely responsible for [...]

We have done a lot of work recently to improve the stability of our Murex system.

But one theme which keeps reoccurring is ‘static data’ changes.

There appears to be two issues:

· Data where Murex delete a set of data and reinserts it, when a users edits a single value

This creates issues when multiple users edit the same set of data, where a user can wipe someone else’s changes or the is an error, and only the deletion occurs. [...]
